New Horizons by Flyleaf

picked this up without even having heard Flyleaf had a new album out. I didn’t know what to expect from it, but I was not disappointed at all, except to find out later that Lacey is leaving. Ouch!
Overall I agree that the sound is a little more pop-ish and more produced. I actually like the poppier sound in songs like “Bury Your Heart”; I guess my earlier favorite Flyleaf songs were the more accessible ones anyway.
I won’t attempt a song-by-song review, but I will say that my opinion on several of the songs changed between the first listen and the 10th or 15th. “Fire Fire” still stands out with me as does “Bury Your Heart”, while “Call You Out”, which I initially thought was one of the more enjoyable and interesting songs, no longer seems so. I am noticing more variety now than I did the first couple times through.
I agree that the album is shorter than I’d like, especially knowing it’s supposed to be Lacey’s last. Also, the CD insert is completely disappointing, with virtually no information.
For anyone who likes the sound of Flyleaf, I think this is well worth having. I would compare it favorably to Memento Mori (more similar to it than to Flyleaf). Even where there are differences, the songs are all characteristically Flyleaf’s style.
