DESCRIPTION:

Few books are actually written by the survivor, but this is one. This is a true story written by me. My name is Mary and I was born to London poverty. See WWW.MaryHayward.co.uk/Gallery for pictures from the time.
Inspiring and uplifting. An emotional roller-coaster with an unexpected twist of romance that comes but once in a lifetime.
Begging for food at the age of 8, with my 4 year old sister I starve.
It is a battle of wits, and a struggle to survive the horror of hunger. Betrayed, my life falls apart. The legacy of my childhood I am abandoned alone and cast out onto the streets, a single parent homeless with a child of my own. It is the story of heartbreak and struggle, invisible to the welfare state. Yet something within me always fights, and I break free the shackles of my miserable life, and at last find the most amazing and wonderful love in such an unlikely way.

DESCRIPTION:

The renowned Internet commentator and author of How to Fix the Future“expos[es] the greed, egotism and narcissism that fuels the tech world” (Chicago Tribune).

The digital revolution has contributed to the world in many positive ways, but we are less aware of the Internet’s deeply negative effects. The Internet Is Not the Answer, by longtime Internet skeptic Andrew Keen, offers a comprehensive look at what the Internet is doing to our lives. The book traces the technological and economic history of the Internet, from its founding in the 1960s through the rise of big data companies to the increasing attempts to monetize almost every human activity. In this sharp, witty narrative, informed by the work of other writers, reporters, and academics, as well as his own research and interviews, Keen shows us the tech world, warts and all.

Startling and important, The Internet Is Not the Answer is a big-picture look at what the Internet is doing to our society and an investigation of what we can do to try to make sure the decisions we are making about the reconfiguring of our world do not lead to unpleasant, unforeseen aftershocks.

“Andrew Keen has written a very powerful and daring manifesto questioning whether the Internet lives up to its own espoused values. He is not an opponent of Internet culture, he is its conscience, and must be heard.” –Po Bronson, #1 New York Times–bestselling author

Dawn

Who would have thought it? A one-night stand should have only been one night.

Then the hot guy shows up on my doorstep with a business proposal that stinks more than a Vanfian female in heat.

He’s hiding something. I just didn’t expect it to be an upcoming apocalypse.

I have no choice but to go all in, but the plan is to keep my heart protected from him.

Yeah right. My hormones are leading the way, and this guy isn’t going to let me slip from his grasp that easily.

Zelup

Life is just never easy, is it?

My older brother shacks up with the daughter of a goddess, and all of a sudden, our planet is pushed into an apocalypse.

And I’m forced to hunt down a mythical Guardian to aid us in the fight against the demon host that’s squared off to us.

What I don’t expect in my travels is to fall for a feisty scientist.

She sees through my crap and is hotter than Hades.

But I can’t afford to be distracted.

And yet, that’s exactly what I am. This Guardian can suck it. I’m more interested in convincing Dawn I’m her man, her protector.

Until the Crowned Prince of Hell gets her. His threat?

To erase me from her memory forever.

The Vartik King Chronicles is planned as a sexy Sci-Fi Standalone series where eight siblings get an adventure and find love in the galaxies beyond home. Come join this new adventure and fall in love with the world I’ve created. Each book can be read separately and out of order! Enjoy.

Note: It’s seven brothers and one sister, hence the eight siblings change.

She was looking for adventure…
Lady Rosamunde Stanley just never expected in the form of a kidnapping.
Well, an almost-kidnapping. The dastardly man only went and took the wrong woman!
But she soon discovers the dark, handsome man is not quite the terrible rogue she thinks him to be and she decides to put his experience to use. Her uncle has gone missing and no one believes her when she says he’s in trouble. Can she persuade Russell to help?
Russell might have kidnapped her, but he has no intention of keeping her. Even if the heat between them is driving him out of his wits and her crazy family makes him long for things a battle-hardened orphan like him should never want.
Their societal divide isn’t the only reason to keep his distance. Rosamunde is a bloody knife-carrying, picklock-wielding madwoman.
A far too appealing madwoman…
He’s not the only one struggling. Rosamunde is finding it just as difficult to fight the attraction, despite knowing it is most likely her over-active imagination leading her down this path. Somehow, she must keep her head around the most exciting man she’s ever met.

DESCRIPTION:

When his nephew is kidnapped, former Army Ranger Brett tries to intervene but is himself taken hostage. He and his former Ranger team find it’s part of a deeper conspiracy.

Blood, mixed with dirt, is a familiar taste to him. As the dirt blends into the blood, it forms a pasty consistency that is difficult to spit out. There is enough of the mixture present to restrict his breathing. He turns his head to the right and coughs in an effort to clear his mouth.

It’s a weak attempt resulting only in a large dribble down the side of his cheek. His eyes are slow to open and his vision is blurred. Lifting his left hand, he reaches to the back of his head to inspect the pain and wetness. He uses he left arm as leverage to roll over onto his stomach. The concrete floor is cold on his face, but this position allows him to clear his mouth.

A change of position brings no relief to any of the pain. It’s a struggle to get both arms out from underneath his body. With palms down, he extends his arms and pushes his body back into a four-post position. His head feels like it weighs fifty pounds, as he lifts it to look for a way out. His vision starts to clear and a metal door appears in the distance.

Right hand forward, right knee forward, left hand forward, left knee forward, right hand forward, right knee… “Aaaaahhh!” His upper body collapses. His head bounces off the floor and his vision returns to a blur. Now on his left side, he squints his eyes to get a look at his ankle.

Blood streams from the rusted chain into his white socks. It’s a struggle to get back on all fours and push himself to the back wall, below the window.

The air is brisk, and the sun is rising. “Where the hell am I?”

Being the nice guy leaves me open to being a rebound romance.

Which I’m not interested in. I’ve got better things to do.

Like taking my spot on the NBA draft picks. It’s all that matters to me.

Love has never been on the radar. I’m too focused for all that fluff.

Then life slows me down. Way down.

An injury at the end of the spring semester has me working my way back to full health all summer long.

And wouldn’t you know it? I’m paired up with the most beautiful and aggravating girl on the women’s basketball team.

She ain’t got a chip on her shoulder. She’s got a family-sized bag.

Her body was built for ballet shoes and tights. All of which I’d give up my dreams to see her in.

But she’s focused on one thing–not being anything like her mom.

The mother that is head of the dance program at our university.

I might need my body to heal, but this pretty woman needs her heart mended.

She’s got some deep wounds from the past that she’s not willing to release just yet.

Where I didn’t think I’d ever say such words, I’m up for the job.

This one is mine. I’m going all in.
