DESCRIPTION:
Jacob frantically stumbled over the fallen log, crashing uncontrollably through the dense underbrush and falling to the ground. He scrambled quickly back up to his feet and began running again. Jacob had no idea where he was going, but he knew that he should run. He crashed through some more undergrowth and into a little less dense part of the forest. He spun, looking around. His heart felt as if it were trying to jump out of his chest. His mind was racing. Where had Rick gone? Was the thing following him? Was it following Rick? The two friends had just split up, hoping that at least one of them could get away. He turned and ran again, as he ran; he tried looking over his shoulder to see if that thing was after him. He saw no sign of it. Running through this jungle was tough and he kept stumbling and falling. He looked back again; nothing. He turned his head back just in time to dodge around a large tree, as he jumped to his left, he was knocked off balance with a vicious blow. He felt like he had been run over by a truck or a middle linebacker. He hit the ground hard and bounced once. He tried to regain his balance and scramble back to his feet but just as he began to rise he was knocked backward again by the heavy blow of a large hairy paw. Jacob did not even realize that blood was seeping out of his body in several places. The claws had opened his face and falling through the brush had opened several small wounds on his arms and legs. He tried to rise up to his feet again; his entire body was protesting the movement. He felt as if he were moving in slow motion. A cold blackness was beginning to overcome him as he saw the big paw with the razor sharp claws swinging down toward his face. The blackness now enveloped him, his last thought was: I hope Rick makes it out.

DESCRIPTION:
Lucinda Delaney is a southern belle ruled by a vision of life that no longer exists. The Civil War has come and gone and her side has lost, yet she is determined to proceed as if nothing has changed—a denial that stokes the flames of her irrational angers. Despite her returned husband’s devotion, Lucinda is sure he is having an affair with one of their slaves. After all, his Union-sympathizing brother, Tom, did just that, scandalously running away with the woman and settling into contented family life in Philadelphia. Over the years, her racist feelings and fears only intensify, and when it’s time for her own daughter to marry, her chief concern is the color of the children. The Angry Wife is a memorable and impassioned dissection of prejudice, as well as a riveting portrait of post–Civil War America.

Can a Highlander and a cordwainer’s daughter surrender to love, heart and soul?
Welcome to book one in the adventurous new series Highland Outcasts from bestselling author Elizabeth Rose!
From admired warriors to outcasts in a blink of an eye, these rugged Highlanders are out to find redemption.
Gluttony, lust, pride, and greed, might sound like deadly sins. However, they are nothing compared to the wrath of Old Callum MacKeefe if you break his rules while drinking in his tavern!
The Accused:
Highlander, Gavin MacKeefe. He’s been called gluttonous because of his never-ending love of food and drink.
The Crime:
Gavin foolishly breaks some of Old Callum MacKeefe’s tavern rules and ends up as an outcast of the clan. His biggest offense is breaking rule number one: Never waste Old Callum’s precious, homemade Mountain Magic whisky. His second mistake was breaking rule number nine: Never step on, or soil Callum’s Cordovan leather boots.
The Punishment:
Gavin is sent to town to help the cordwainer’s daughter since her father was attacked and left for dead. He also needs to help construct and bring back a pair of Cordovan leather boots for Callum. If not, he’ll never be welcomed back into the clan. The cordwainer’s daughter takes him under her wing, but he discovers she needs his help with her family matters even more than he needs her.
The Cordwainer’s Daughter:
Davita is the cordwainer’s daughter, trying to save their shoe business in her father’s absence. She’s asked for help from the castle. To her dismay, they’ve sent her the Highlander, Gavin MacKeefe. She’s seen this man more than once drinking too much in the town’s tavern. In a desperate deal with the MacKeefes, she promises to keep him away from whisky and to help him construct a pair of Cordovan leather boots. It should be a simple task, but when he turns out to be her savior, she has a hard time letting him go.
Two people from different walks of life find that they need each other more than they think. But can a Highlander and a cordwainer’s daughter find happiness together? One of them will have to give up everything they love if they are to make this work. Love acts in strange ways. Sometimes, it steals one’s heart and soul.

He wants to save his betrothal. She wants to save her brother. But the bargain they strike to help each other could destroy them both.
Lord Robert Ashton knew he was about to make a deal with the devil. And Lady Eloise Surrey knew she was about to descend into hell.
After years of living the life of a rogue, Lord Robert fought his way back into the good graces of Society and an elaborate wedding awaits. It’s not the love match, but a duke’s daughter is the perfect solution to his profane past. The only obstacle remaining to the marriage contracts is his long association with Campion’s Gentlemen’s Emporium, a notorious gaming hell.
Lady Eloise Surrey, on the other hand, is at the end of her time in Society. A lace-capped spinster, Eloise acts as a chaperone to Lady Lydia Rowbotham, the soon-to-be betrothed of Robert, and she plans to exit to the country after the wedding.
Then her younger brother Timothy is kidnapped, and Eloise, determined to track her brother’s last movements, is drawn into London’s dark underworld—starting with Campion’s, the last place Timothy was seen.
Disguised as a man, Eloise heads to the emporium, bringing her face-to-face with Robert. He is immediately drawn to the tenacious woman, even though Robert realizes her quest is futile.
